It's no surprise that Kentucky, a state with a long history of farming tobacco, ranks as one of the top states in terms of tobacco use. This complicated relationship with tobacco continues to this day, especially with the introduction of e-vape products, like JUUL.

Because of the connection between tobacco use and many health outcomes (lung cancer, COPD, heart disease, stroke, hypertension), the BRIGHT Coalition continues to make decreasing tobacco use a priority.

Just as with losing weight, quitting tobacco is very difficult but not impossible.  Tobacco users wanting to quit usually need the support of family, friends, and community as well as partnership with their health care provider.

While current work is being done to make Franklin (Simpson County) and Scottsville (Allen County) tobacco-free, we plan to further explore tobacco-free and policy opportunities. Click the button above to learn more about BRADD's objectives and work related to tobacco-free initiatives and policies.

While BRADD residents of all ages are exposed to tobacco marketing, addiction, secondhand smoke, etc., the BRIGHT Coalition has chosen a special focus on youth addiction and youth vaping.
